Disaster Community Impact
In May 2010, United Way of Johnson County received a $110,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County for the Disaster Community Impact Program.
Among the accomplishments of 2010:
• The Johnson County Long Term Recovery Committee, through a contract with the Crisis Center of Johnson County, completed case management for 1,095 affected people affected by the 2008 flood:
• Total number of low-to-moderate income clients assisted: 935
• Total number of non-low-to-moderate income clients assisted:160
• Developed a coalition of Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) to create a comprehensive corps of agencies and organizations committed to strengthening the community’s disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts by working to support the operations of Johnson County Emergency Management Agency, and bring together disaster related resources to better meet the needs of survivors of disaster and to improve service, maximize resources and eliminate unnecessary duplication
• Conducted four half-day training sessions for the Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) and an EVC disaster simulation training to prepare volunteers to supervise, train and assign volunteers in times of disaster
• Represented the Johnson County COAD on the Iowa Human Resources Disaster Council
